July 2014 Merri Grace McLeroy
As summer settles in, nature’s most beautiful colors appear renewed. Skies appear bluer, the turquoise ocean more intense, and floral buds in saturated yellows, reds, purples and pinks burst forth beckoned by the sun. Is it coincidental these refreshing colors are emulated in the forward-trending home furnishings palette? I’d like to think not. This issue, our annual Source Book, contains two trend reports to point you in the right direction in designing, decorating or refreshing fashionable interiors. Referencing the American Home Furnishings Alliance, Stylesight trend forecasting, High Point Market Authority, the International Casual Furniture & Accessories Market, and the National Kitchen & Bath Association, Top 10 Trends is my forecast of what’s on the horizon that will be featured in stores and showrooms now through the spring of 2015. Earthen Elements, the second trend feature, reveals a bright forecast on the color front. I’m sure you will want to hold on to these for inspiration. You’ll certainly be inspired by the winning entries in our annual Gulfstream Media Group Design Awards. Selected by our illustrious panel of industry judges, this year’s winners represent the best of the best residential architecture, bathroom, bedroom, kitchens both large and exuberantly large, and outdoor living. As we welcome summer, note the blurred lines between casual (outdoor) and indoor furnishings. Also, look for numerous “umbrella” options, lots of soft, cuddly cushioning, and more fire pits and fire tables than ever before – yes, even for South Florida. It’s going to be a hot summer, so deck out the pool and be sure to make a big splash with comfortable seating. Enjoy!
